Diamond Colour
Understanding Diamond Colour
When we talk about a diamond’s colour, we're really talking about how little colour it has. The less colour present, the more radiant and rarer the diamond — with completely colourless stones being the most sought-after.
Most natural diamonds have a slight tint of yellow or brown, caused by the presence of trace elements like nitrogen during their formation. To assess this, diamonds are graded on a scale from D (colourless) to Z (noticeable yellow or brown tint).

The GIA Colour Scale
This internationally recognized grading system was established by the Gemmological Institute of America (GIA), one of the most respected authorities in the industry. At Adrisya, we offer diamonds graded from D to H:
-
D–F: These diamonds are considered colourless to near-colourless, with only microscopic differences between them — differences that typically only a trained gemmologist can detect. They’re prized for their brightness and rarity.
-
G–H: These stones carry a slight warmth or tint of yellow, generally only visible when compared side-by-side with higher-grade diamonds. They still offer exceptional beauty and value.
How to Choose the Right Colour
Your ideal diamond colour comes down to a few key considerations: your budget, your preference for whiteness, and your setting.
If you're sensitive to even a faint tint, we recommend going with Colour F or better — especially in solitaire rings where the centre stone is the focal point.
However, if you're open to a warmer tone or want to make room in your budget for a larger carat weight or higher clarity, a G or H grade can be an excellent choice.
Keep in mind that larger diamonds (typically over 1.00 carat) can make any colour more noticeable, so colour becomes increasingly important as carat size increases.
Setting Matters
The metal you choose for your ring can influence how the diamond colour appears:
-
Yellow or rose gold naturally complements diamonds with a lower colour grade, making any warmth less visible.
-
In contrast, white gold and platinum can accentuate even slight tints, so colourless diamonds (D–F) are often preferred for these settings.
If your ring design includes shoulder stones or a halo, we suggest opting for at least a Colour F centre stone. At Adrisya, all accent diamonds in these designs are set at Colour F — so matching them ensures a seamless, bright appearance.
Choosing the right diamond colour is all about finding the perfect balance between personal preference, visual impact, and budget. Whether you lean towards icy brilliance or prefer a warmer glow, understanding how colour interacts with size, shape, and setting can help you make a confident, informed choice — and one that sparkles beautifully for years to come.
