Dior's Fall/Winter 2026 Haute Couture collection is a reminder that the greatest luxury houses don't borrow from craft, they enter into conversation with it.

This is Jonathan Anderson's second show for the house, and in my view, it might be his most precise work yet. He has taken the 18th-century tradition of Indian chintz, the Mughal-era art of gemstone carving, and the quiet genius of Jaipur's workshops, and distilled them into something that feels both historically grounded and utterly contemporary.

What strikes me most is how Anderson doesn't just reference India. He traces the lineage. Lynda Benglis's Peacock series, created during her time in Ahmedabad, becomes the thread that leads him to chintz. The chintz leads him to indiennes. The research leads him directly to the stone carvers of Rajasthan, where 800,000 people still earn their living across the gem trade, and where Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II invited craftsmen from across the subcontinent to settle in 1727.

The jewelry, handmade in Jaipur, features carved green onyx cabochons, layered necklaces of mother-of-pearl and rock crystal, four-leaf clover motifs. Each piece carries the weight of Emperor Akbar's imperial workshops, the same tradition that produced the pietra dura inlay of the Taj Mahal.

This is what separates the greatest houses from everyone else. It's not about exoticism or vague "Eastern inspiration." It's about having the curiosity, the respect, and the craft relationships to turn centuries-old technique into something that lives in the present.

More than a collection, it's a masterclass in provenance. ✨
